Somerset Chamber Choir is one of the finest choirs in the West Country, with a reputation for performing concerts of the highest quality in partnership with some of the country’s best professional instrumentalists and vocal soloists.

Founded in 1984 by former members of the Somerset Youth Choir, today’s members are keen amateur singers from all walks of life, united by longstanding friendships, a love of choral music and a commitment to delivering performances of the highest quality.

Our aims are to continue to work hard to maintain our high musical standards, and to perform music that strikes the right balance between intellectual and emotional enjoyment for both choir and audience. We also aim to explore ways to encourage young people across the County to sing, and to encourage them to become as passionate about choral music as we are. As part of this work, we are currently developing partnerships with youth choirs active in Somerset and are planning to stage joint concert performances with them in the future.

The Choir continues to enjoy working with distinguished vocal soloists such as Mary Bevan, Katie Bray (England’s representative in the 2019 Cardiff Singer of the World) and, most recently, James Gilchrist. We have also established an especially close partnership with Southern Sinfonia, one of the finest orchestras in the UK.
